The match in Stockholm kicks off at 8:45 p.m. local time.

Poland, coached by Jan Urban, beat Albania 2-1 in Warsaw on Thursday in a playoff semifinal to set up the decisive clash.

Sweden advanced to the playoff final with a 3-1 win over Ukraine.

Poland are ranked 34th worldwide by football's governing body FIFA, while Sweden are No. 42 in the FIFA table.

The Poles finished second in their qualifying group behind the Netherlands, missing out on automatic qualification and advancing to the playoffs.

They have a strong recent record in such matches, having reached the last World Cup and qualified for Euro 2024 through the playoff route.

Poland defeated Sweden 2-0 four years ago in a playoff decider for a berth at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, that match was played in the southern Polish city of Chorzów, and Poland’s overall record against Sweden is unfavourable, with nine wins, four draws and 15 losses.

Poland have not won away to Sweden since 1930, state news agency PAP reported.

The 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada and Mexico, featuring 48 teams—16 more than in 2022.

If Urban's men qualify, they will face Tunisia, the Netherlands and Japan in the group stage, following draw in Washington on December 5.

Poland reached the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup before being eliminated by eventual runners-up France.

The Polish team also qualified for the 2018 tournament in Russia but exited in the group stage.

Poland finished third in the 1974 World Cup in West Germany and were also third in Spain in 1982.
