The announcement came after the 24-year-old surged from No. 114 to No. 21 in the Women's Tennis Association's (WTA) world rankings following her breakthrough performance at the French Open earlier this month.

Chwalińska began Roland Garros in qualifying and advanced all the way to the championship match, where she lost 3-6, 2-6 to Russia's Mirra Andreeva.

Her career-best run in Paris secured her place among the world's top players and paved the way for a Wimbledon main-draw berth, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Despite her rise in the rankings, Chwalińska was not initially guaranteed a place in the Wimbledon field, it said, because the tournament's entry list was drawn up before the French Open began.

As a result, she would otherwise have been required to compete in qualifying.

Following her unexpected success in Paris, pressure mounted on Wimbledon organisers to grant her a wild card.

The Polish Tennis Association (PZT) was among those that formally requested direct entry for the player.

Wimbledon, the only Grand Slam tennis tournament played on grass, runs from June 29 to July 12.
