During Friday's training session in Bulgaria's capital, Sofia, the players attached gold ribbons to their shirts as a symbol of solidarity with children affected by cancer.
The gesture was intended to encourage support for organisations raising money to fight childhood cancer, said team captain Aleksander Śliwka. He added that the Heroes Foundation, which has supported the team for years, is one such organisation.
This was not the team's first such visit. Most recently, during a friendly match against Finland in Gdańsk, the players met children being cared for at a local hospice.
Artur Szalpuk said simply spending time with the children, making them laugh and being present can help. He added that such visits also help put his own problems into perspective.
The initiative is taking place during the European Volleyball Championship. Poland opened its campaign with a 3-0 win over Portugal on Thursday and will face Israel on Saturday at 15:00.
