Lewandowski rewrote the history books when he scored in his Bayern Munich’s 2-1 home win over Union Berlin in the German top tier on Saturday.

The Polish forward is the first player to score on each of the first nine matchdays of a campaign in the league's 57-year history, according to the fcbayern.com website.

He surpassed Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who found the net in all of the first eight matches of the 2015/2016 season.

Lewandowski was quoted as saying after Saturday's match: "I'm glad I scored again. I'll try to continue to play well and help the team."

He declined to comment on how far his streak might go, fcbayern.com reported.

"I'm not thinking about how many goals I've scored, I'm thinking about how we can take the next three points. That's what's in my head," he said, as quoted by his club's website. "I'm glad about the records but I don't focus on these things, I focus on football, training and sport."

Earlier in October Lewandowski became the German Bundesliga's fourth-highest scorer in history.

The Polish goal machine is a four-time Bundesliga top scorer and the division's all-time top non-German marksman.

The Polish star striker has now bagged 19 goals in just 14 appearances for Bayern in the 2019/2020 season.

The 31-year-old Pole leads the Champions League scoring charts this season, with five goals, and is the competition’s fifth-highest all-time scorer, two goals behind France’s Karim Benzema.

Lewandowski, who also captains the Poland national team, is in the running for the 2019 Ballon d'Or (Golden Ball), awarded by France Football magazine to its pick as the world footballer of the year.
