The announcement came as European football’s governing body held its 2020/2021 Champions League draw ceremony in Nyon, Switzerland on Thursday.
The shortlist for the 2019/2020 UEFA Men's Player of the Year award also included Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Lewandowski, who captains Poland’s national football team, plays for German side Bayern Munich.
He ended the previous season as the top scorer of the German premier league, on 34 goals.
In addition to notching up a strong Bundesliga season, the Polish goal machine scored six times for Bayern in the German Cup.
He also bagged 15 goals in last season’s Champions League, where his Bayern beat French side Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the competition’s final at the end of last month.
