Poland’s Lewandowski breaks Bundesliga score record

Poland’s football star Robert Lewandowski has beaten German icon Gerd Müller’s all-time Bundesliga record of 40 goals in one season.

In a Saturday match, Lewandowski’s team, Bayern Munich, beat Augsburg 5-2 with Lewandowski scoring his side’ fifth in the 90th minute of the game.

The Polish goal machine has thus scored 41 goals in the German Bundesliga this season, breaking the legendary record of Müller from the 1971/1972 campaign.

Lewandowski in December last year won FIFA’s 2020 Best Men’s Player award, beating Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

The Poland captain was also named Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai at the end of 2020.
