The Pole needed just 67 hours, 58 minutes and 1 second to complete the 19-kilometre swim, 900-kilometre bike ride and the 211-kilometre run, beating the previous record by more than four-and-a-half hours, Poland's state PAP news agency reported.
Already a world champion in double- and triple-ultra-triathlon, Karaś described the challenge in Mexico as “hell,” a race “like no other," according to the Polish news agency.
The ultra-triathletes competed in a high-altitude, humid Mexican environment, and also had to contend with a massive downpour and a hailstorm, which at some point forced authorities to temporarily suspend the event, the organisers said.
The 32-year-old champion is a native of the northern Polish city of Elbląg.
