Chess: Poland's Duda claims silver at world championships in Warsaw

France's Maxime Vachier-Lagrave took the gold, while the bronze went to his countryman Alireza Firouzja.

Several hundred chess players from various countries competed in the 2021 World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, which ended in the Polish capital on Thursday.

The event had a total prize fund of USD 1 million, with a top prize of USD 60,000 each going to the rapid and blitz open champions and USD 40,000 each to the women's champions.

Earlier this month, Poland's Duda was crowned the European blitz chess champion, while countryman Maciej Klekowski took the silver at the 2021 European Blitz and Rapid Chess Championships in the southern Polish city of Katowice.
