Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz through to 2nd round of Australian Open

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has made it through to the second round of the men’s singles at the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in Melbourne.

The Polish world No. 11 on Monday overcame Belarusian player Egor Gerasimov in four sets, 6-2, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, in their first-round encounter at Melbourne Park.

Up next for Hurkacz at the Australian Open is France's Adrian Mannarino.

Four other Poles, Kamil Majchrzak, Iga Świątek, Magda Linette and Magdalena Fręch, are scheduled to play their first-round singles matches in Melbourne on Tuesday.

The 2022 Australian Open runs until January 30.
