The 25-year-old Pole, coached by American Craig Boynton, is defending his men's singles title at the Miami Open, a major US tournament that is sometimes referred to as "the fifth Grand Slam."

The Polish world No. 10 on Saturday beat France’s Arthur Rinderknech 7-6, 6-2 in the second round. He had a bye in the first round.

Meanwhile, Poland's Iga Świątek clinched becoming the new world number one in women's tennis after she advanced to the third round of the Miami Open on Friday.

The 20-year-old, who is currently ranked world No. 2 by the Women's Tennis Association, will officially take over as the new WTA world No. 1 when the tournament ends and the rankings are updated on April 4, becoming the first Polish player to hold that distinction.

The 2022 Miami Open began on March 21 and runs until April 3.
