Tennis: Poland’s Świątek cruises into 3rd round of French Open

Poland's Iga Świątek has cruised into the third round of the French Open Grand Slam tennis tournament, with a 6-0, 6-2 win on Thursday against American Alison Riske.

The Polish world No. 1, who triumphed in Paris in 2020, notched up her 30th consecutive match victory.

Świątek will next face Danka Kovinić of Montenegro in the women’s singles competition in the French capital.

The Polish player earlier this month won the Italian Open clay-court tournament in Rome, defending her crown and claiming her eighth career singles title.

The 20-year-old, coached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, in early April took over as the new world number one in women's tennis, becoming the first Pole to top the WTA rankings.
