Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona last month, appeared at the ceremony wearing the club kit with the number nine on his back, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Barcelona said on its website that Lewandowski was joining a list of “illustrious” number nines in the club’s history, including Brazil’s Ronaldo, Uruguay’s Luis Súarez and the Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.
The Poland captain said he was “proud” to be “at last” joining the Catalan club and thanked fans for turning out in such big numbers.
Accompanied by the Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, Lewandowski relished the occasion, posing for photos, presenting his ball-juggling skills and symbolically signing a contract with the club.
His official unveiling at Barça came exactly a year after the departure of the club’s former star and captain Lionel Messi, news outlets reported.
Top scorer in Europe, FIFA Best Men's Player
Lewandowski was in May named the top scorer in Europe's biggest football leagues last season, with 35 goals for Bayern Munich. The Polish marksman won the annual European Golden Shoe award for the second time in a row, finishing well ahead of the rest of the pack.
Lewandowski was earlier this year crowned the top scorer of Germany's Bundesliga premier league for the 2021/2022 season, his seventh such trophy since he began playing in Germany in 2010.
The 33-year-old, who captains Poland’s national team, in January won world soccer governing body FIFA’s 2021 Best Men's Player award, beating Argentina’s Messi and Egypt's Mohamed Salah.
