Tennis: Poland’s Zieliński beaten in Australian Open doubles final

Poland’s Jan Zieliński and Hugo Nys of Monaco lost in straight sets to home favourites Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler in the final of the Australian Open men's doubles in Melbourne on Saturday.

Zieliński and Nys had made a sensation, reaching the final of the doubles competition at Melbourne Park, but in the championship match they were beaten by Hijikata and Kubler 4-6, 6-7.

Playing in the Grand Slam final in Australia was the biggest success for the 26-year-old Pole in his career so far.

Last year, he reached the quarterfinals of the US Open with Nys.

Zieliński has two doubles titles to his name, both earned at the Metz Open, with Hubert Hurkacz in 2021 and with Nys last year.
