The Polish world No. 1 ousted the Austrian lucky loser 6-3, 6-2 in their second-round encounter on Friday.

Up next for the Polish tennis star at the clay-court tournament in the Spanish capital is American Bernarda Pera.

Meanwhile, Poland’s world No. 100 Magdalena Fręch crashed out of the Madrid Open after losing 6-7, 3-6 to third-seeded American Jessica Pegula in the second round of the women's singles on Friday.

On the men's side, Poland's Hubert Hurkacz defeated France's Richard Gasquet 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 on Friday to enter the third round of the tournament in Madrid.

The 2023 Madrid Open runs until May 7.

Poland's Świątek missed last year's Madrid Open due to a shoulder injury.
