"We will support the construction of the Raków stadium," Morawiecki declared during a visit to the club in the southern city of Częstochowa on Thursday.

Raków have secured Poland’s top-flight league title, with three games to go until the end of the season, and are preparing to play in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Morawiecki congratulated the club on its achievements in recent years and promised to provide assistance in adapting the team's stadium to the requirements of European football's governing body UEFA, which runs the Champions League.

"We decided to invest public funds and support your success," Morawiecki told club officials.

"We will support the construction of the stadium to such a level that it can also serve the club in European competitions," he announced.

He added that, according to  preliminary estimates, the stadium would cost anywhere from PLN 60 to PLN 70 million to expand, including increasing its seating capacity.

"Of this amount ... at least PLN 40 million will be allocated from public coffers to support Raków," he pledged.
