The Polish broadcasters unveiled details of their 2023 European Games coverage on Wednesday.
Appearing before the parliamentary committee on sports, physical education and tourism, TVP executives said the broadcaster would air over 150 hours of live coverage of all the 29 sports that make up the 12-day 2023 European Games, which start on June 21.
Europe's 'most important multidisciplinary competition'
The state television broadcaster announced plans for programmes focusing on sports such as athletics and ski jumping as well as a daily round-up of each day’s action, state news agency PAP reported.
Meanwhile, TVP’s dedicated sports channel TVP Sport will broadcast the 2023 European Games from 9 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. every day, with a summary of the day’s events each evening, according to officials.
TVP’s Head of Sports Marek Szkolnikowski told lawmakers that the coverage would also include a “behind-the-scenes” look at the various events making up the 2023 European Games.
Fans will be able to follow the latest results, news and analysis of the 2023 European Games on TVP Sport’s website tvpsport.pl, which will also post links to live coverage, the PAP news agency reported.
TVP Sport began its countdown to the 2023 European Games in April, and has since been profiling the various sports that make up the event, and the southern Polish cities that will host them, according to officials.
The head of the Polish parliamentary committee on sports, physical education and tourism, Jakub Rutnicki, said on Wednesday: “The 2012 football European Championships co-hosted by Poland represented a big opportunity which was seized. Now the 3rd European Games must be used to help promote Poland. Crowds of fans will ensure that the event is a success."
2023 European Games
The 2023 European Games start in the southern Polish city of Kraków on June 21 and run until July 2.
Kraków and 10 other southern Polish cities are preparing to host the 3rd European Games, which will feature 12 days of competition in 29 sports.
More than 7,000 athletes from 48 countries are expected to take part in the event, which will also provide opportunities to win European championship medals and a pathway to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in some of the sports.
It is Europe’s most important sports event of 2023, according to officials.
