The Polish star was defeated 5-7, 7-6(5), 2-6 by Ukraine’s former World No.3 on Wimbledon’s centre court on Tuesday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Świątek said afterwards she was satisfied with her performance in the tournament, after recording a first-ever appearance in the last eight at the All England Club.
And despite losing to the unseeded Svitolina, the Pole said she would be rooting for her Ukrainian colleague from now on.
Świątek told reporters: "I think overall, looking at her career, having a Grand Slam title would be pretty amazing for her. She's coming back after becoming a mother… I told her on the net that I hope she wins this tournament.“
Świątek on Monday started her 67th week at the top of the WTA world rankings, with a 924-point lead over second-placed Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
At the end of last month, the Polish star withdrew from the Bad Homburg Open tournament in Germany due to illness.
Earlier in June, Świątek won the French Open for the third time after defeating Karolína Muchová of the Czech Republic in the final to claim her 14th career singles title.
The 22-year-old, coached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, in April last year took over as the new number one in women's tennis, becoming the first Pole to top the world rankings.
