The BNP Paribas Poland Open tournament, first held in 2021, is the biggest tennis event in the country.

It is a part of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) circuit and attracts some of the best female players from Poland and further afield.

The tournament has 32 players in the main draw, with the Polish world number one the natural favourite to claim the title.

The WTA 250 hard-court tournament will take place in the Polish capital from July 24 to 30.

Last year, France's Caroline Garcia triumphed in Warsaw, eliminating Świątek in the quarterfinals.

The Polish tennis ace on Monday started her 68th week at the top of the WTA world rankings, with a 470-point lead over her nearest rival.

Świątek this month reached the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament in London, where she succumbed to Ukraine’s former world No. 3 Elina Svitolina 5-7, 7-6, 2-6.

Last month, the Polish player won the French Open for the third time after defeating Karolína Muchová of the Czech Republic in the final to claim her 14th career singles title.

Świątekcoached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, has topped the world rankings since April 4, 2022.

The 22-year-old now leads the rankings with 9,315 points, ahead of Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka with 8,845 points, and Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina with 5,465 points.
