Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz advances to 2nd round of US Open

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has made it through to the second round of the US Open tennis tournament in New York.

The 26-year-old Pole beat Switzerland's Marc-Andrea Hüsler 4-6, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of the men's singles at Flushing Meadows.

Hurkacz, who is 17th in the world ranking, next takes on Britain's world No. 123 Jack Draper for a place in the third round.

On the women's side, Poland’s world No. 1 Iga Świątek, 24th-ranked Magda Linette and 77th-ranked Magdalena Fręch have also advanced to the second round of the Grand Slam tournament in New York.
