UPDATE: Polish speed climber sets new world record at Paris Olympics

Poland's Aleksandra Mirosław broke her own world record for women's speed climbing twice in a row at the Paris Olympics on Monday.

The 30-year-old, who is one of her country's best prospects for an Olympic gold medal, reached the top of a 15-metre wall in 6.06 seconds to win a preliminary round of the competition.

She improved on her previous record-breaking time of 6.21 that she set earlier in the day.

Countrywoman Aleksandra Kałucka finished fourth in the heats on Monday, with a new personal best of 6.38, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The Olympic speed climbing final is scheduled for Wednesday.

Poland's Mirosław finished fourth in the women's climbing competition at the Tokyo Games in 2021, narrowly missing out on an Olympic medal.
