Paris 2024: Poland's Mirosław wins gold, Kałucka takes bronze in Olympic speed climbing

Aleksandra Mirosław won a gold medal for Poland in the women's speed climbing competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Wednesday, with her compatriot Aleksandra Kałucka claiming the bronze.

China's Deng Lijuan achieved her lifetime best in the Olympic final to take silver.

Mirosław reached the top of the 15-metre wall in 6.10 seconds in Wednesday's final, beating Lijuan by eight-hundredths of a secondKałucka finished third in 6.53 seconds.

In the heats two days earlier, the 30-year-old Mirosław set a new world record for women's speed climbing with a time of 6.06 seconds.

Mirosław's victory on Wednesday marked the first Olympic gold for Team Poland at the Paris Summer Games.

The Pole finished fourth in the women's climbing competition at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, narrowly missing out on a medal.
