Speaking at a media briefing in Karczew, south of Warsaw, Tusk said: “Considering the initial decisions, commitments and declarations of the International Olympic Committee, we can talk about 2040 or 2044."

"I dedicate this announcement to today’s 10-, 12- and 15-year-olds," he added, declaring that "Poland will formally make efforts to host the Olympic Games.”

Addressing reporters alongside his Sports Minister Sławomir Nitras, Tusk revealed: "We have been in talks for many months to make this dream a reality."

“Life will show whether this is a realistic goal,” he told the briefing.

Polish athletes brought home 10 medals, one gold, four silver and five bronze, from the Paris 2024 Olympic Summer Games, which ended on Sunday.

The medal tally marked Team Poland's worst Olympic performance since the 1956 Melbourne Games, placing it 42nd in the overall nations standings.

Host nation France finished fifth with 64 medals, 16 gold, 26 silver and 22 bronze.
