Poles eye medals at Paris Paralympics

A team of disabled Polish athletes has begun their quest for medals at the 2024 Paralympic Summer Games, which kicked off in Paris on Wednesday.
More than 4,400 competitors from around the world, including 84 Poles, are expected to take part in the Paris Paralympics, which celebrate the sporting talent of athletes with various impairments.

Eighty-four athletes, 43 men and 41 women, have been selected to represent Poland at the event.

More than 4,400 competitors from around the world are expected to take part in the global multi-sport event, which celebrates the sporting talent of athletes with various impairments.

Team Poland is set to compete in 15 sports, including para-athletics, table tennis, swimming, weightlifting and kayaking.

Poland won 24 medals, seven gold, six silver and 11 bronze, and finished 17th in the overall medal standings at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.

Poland won 39 medals and finished 10th in the overall medals table at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Public broadcaster Polish Radio is a media partner of the Polish team for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Summer Games, which started on August 28 and run until September 8.

Track-and-field competitors Lucyna Kornobys and Maciej Lepiato were the flag bearers for the Polish delegation at the opening ceremony for the Paris Paralympics on Wednesday night.

The Paralympics follow the 2024 Paris Olympics, which the French capital hosted from July 26 to August 11.
