Croatia: Polish football fans released after paying fines

Several dozen Polish football fans who were detained after the match in Osijek, Croatia, have been released. Each had to pay a €200 fine.

The Polish fans were accused of attacking a group of Croatian supporters and the police. "In total, sixty-seven of our citizens were detained," reports Paweł Wroński, spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Of these, sixty-five were released and fined €200 each. One fan will face charges related to insulting a police officer," the spokesperson clarified.

A Polish man injured in the clashes remains hospitalized. "He has a head injury and will stay in the hospital longer for observation.

The police are on site, and our consular officer is monitoring the situation," the MFA spokesperson assured.
