His passing was announced by public broadcaster Polish Radio on Monday.
Born in 1940 in Warsaw and educated there, Korzyński first rose to prominence in the 1960s, writing hit songs for some of Poland’s biggest pop acts, including Czesław Niemen, Ada Rusowicz and Piotr Szczepanik.
A single he penned for Szczepanik, 1965’s Yellow Calendars, put Korzyński’s name on the map and many successful collaborations followed in subsequent years and decades, notably with top female singers Maryla Rodowicz, Irena Jarocka and Zdzisława Sośnicka, state news agency PAP reported.
Film music
Korzyński was equally renowned for his film scores, including Man of Marble and five other movies by Oscar-winning Polish director Andrzej Wajda.
The composer’s work graces more than 150 movies and TV dramas, from Andrzej Żuławski’s On the Silver Globe to Take It Easy by Sylwester Chęciński and Krzysztof Gradowski’s Academy of Mr. Kleks.
A winner of numerous industry and state awards, Korzyński also blazed the trail for electronic music in Poland, notably as part of the seminal 1970s disco-funk ensemble Arp Life.
