Chaired by Italian director, actor and producer Valeria Golino, the jury also includes actor Edgar Ramirez, director Debra Granik and singer and actor Benjamin Biolay.

Kulig, 39, skyrocketed to fame for her performance in Paweł Pawlikowski’s Cold War, which won the Best Actress Award at the 31st European Film Awards in 2018.

Among the 20 films competing in the “Un Certain Regard” section, which comprises debut and experimental films, is Polish director Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s English-language debut Silent Twins.

It is a Polish-British co-production based on the book of the same title by investigative journalist Marjorie Wallace. It tells the story of twins who, after spending 14 years at Britain's high-security Broadmoor psychiatric institution, speak to each other only in a language of their own creation.

“EO” by veteran Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski is among the 18 films that are set to compete for the Palme d'Or award at the Cannes Festival, which opens on May 17.
