A retrospective exhibition of paintings and sculptures, it is described by the 77-year-old as one of the biggest shows he has ever had around the world.

The exhibition features oil and acrylic paintings on canvas or aluminium, works on paper, monumental paintings, as well as large-format multi-coloured sculptures.

One of the paintings has been offered by the artist as a gift to the Centre of Contemporary Art. Entitled Wall Landline Irena, it was executed last year to celebrate the memory of Irena Opdyke, née Gut, a Polish woman who suffered a cruel fate in World War II, first at the hands of the Soviets, and then the Germans.

She saved 12 Jews from certain death. In 1949 she emigrated to the United States and remained there until her death in 2003.

Her recollections, published in 1999, served as the basis for the play Irena’s Vow, which was staged on Broadway in 2009.

Recognised as one of the most renowned visual artists, Scully has had over 200 one-man exhibitions and his works are in the collections of some of the world's most prestigious museums and galleries.

The Toruń exhibition runs until September 11.
