Born probably in Warsaw, Łempicka moved to Saint Petersburg where she married a prominent Polish lawyer, then traveled to Paris where she studied painting. Following the outbreak of World War II, she and her second husband moved to the United States. She made a comeback in the late 1960s, with the rediscovery of Art Deco. In 1974 she moved to Mexico where she died in 1980. "Tamara never made costumes for films but she was into movies and I think she dreamed about being a star, maybe in Hollywood. In fact, she loved to pose" Aleksandra Blonka, one of the curators of the exhibition told Radio Poland.
