Director, scriptwriter and producer Małgorzata Szumowska, 49, is a new member in the Writers section.

Her 2020 film Never Gonna Snow Again was the Polish entry for Best International Feature Film at last year’s Academy Awards. Her credits also include 33 Scenes from Life, Elles, In the Name of, Body, and Mug.

Meanwhile, up-and-coming director Tadeusz Łysiak, 29, has been invited to join the Academy in the Short Film and Feature Animation section.

His short feature The Dress was nominated this year for an Oscar, while last year it won the top award at the Atlanta Film Festival, with the jury describing the film as "a gripping tale of transformative yearning, feminine friendship, and startling brutality, … evocatively shot and sensitively scripted.”

A total of 397 film artists were invited this week to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
