The album, entitled Norwid. Od.Nowa, contains original musical compositions to selected poems by Norwid. It is a recording of a concert commemorating the 200th anniversary of the poet's birth.
The concert took place at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw and was performed by prominent Polish musicians, including Józef Skrzek, Kuba Stankiewicz, Renata Przemyk and Gaba Kulka.
Poland’s National Centre for Culture, which organized the concert, invited musicians and vocalists representing different styles and genres to draw attention to the timeless and nuanced nature of Norwid's poems, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
The poems featured on the album come primarily from Norwid's collection entitled Vade-Mecum, considered one of the most important in his oeuvre.
Norwid was born in Poland in 1821. His poetry and art were rediscovered by the Young Poland movement at the end of the 19th century and the start of the 20th. He died in Paris in 1883.
The album is available for purchase at the National Centre for Culture’s store and Empik stores. A vinyl version of the album is scheduled for release in September.
