The programme is comprised of seven pieces by Valentin Silvestrov, one of the most prominent Ukrainian composers of our time.
On Sunday, the Polish Chain Ensemble conducted by Andrzej Bauer is set perform a selection of works by contemporary Ukrainian composers Leonic Hrabovsky, Oleh Bezborodko, Yuri Laniuk and Alexander Shchetinsky. Shchetinsky’s Looking-Glass Music for twelve musicians will have its Polish premiere during the concert.
The festival rounds off on September 8 with a concert featuring oratorios by Ukrainian composers Alexander Shymko, Zoltan Almashi and Bohdan Frolak. The performers include the Orchestra and Chorus of the Warsaw Philharmonic, as well as Polish and Ukrainian singers conducted by Roman Rewakowicz.
The Days of Ukrainian Music Festival was launched in 1999 and for many years was held on an irregular basis. It became an annual event three years ago.
