The weeklong event is in full swing at the Metropolo by Golden Tulip Kraków Hotel, news outlets reported.
A total of 217 outstanding sudoku players from around the globe are battling it out for the world title for the 15th time, according to the wp.pl news website.
Meanwhile, the world’s 226 foremost puzzle solvers are contesting the 29th world championships event, organisers said.
Competitors from 33 countries
In all, teams from 33 countries are vying for world domination in these two brainy sports, according to organisers Sfinks, a Polish NGO that promotes recreational mathematics.
Sfinks notes that sudoku and puzzles are “true gymnastics for the brain,” boosting people's cognitive abilities, stimulating intellectual development and helping people of all ages retain their capacity to think effectively.
The 2022 World Sudoku Championships and the 2022 World Puzzle Championships started in Kraków on October 16. They run until Sunday, October 23.
