Agnieszka Filipowska, a member of staff at the Centre of Polish Sculpture, has told the media that the show has attracted more than 2,000 people since it opened on October 1, with up to 700 visitors during the weekends, despite its off-the-beaten-track location.

Orońsko is located some 120 km south of the capital Warsaw and 15 km from the central city of Radom.

The exhibition brings together 12 works from the 1997-2018 period. They include nine large-scale sculptures made of granite, marble, limestone and onyx, and three executed in soft and malleable materials – wax and resins.

One of the sculptures weighs 14 tons. Five trucks had to be used to transport the works to Poland.

The Centre of Polish Sculpture says on its website that Kapoor "uses a unique hue of rich and vibrant red, bringing to mind the painting of Mark Rothko, blood or Indian spices."

It adds: "This red is Kapoor’s signature, as is his blackest black.”

Born in Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1954, Kapoor has worked and lived in London since the mid-1970s. His work continues the achievements of British sculpture, marked with such names as Henry Moore (1898-1986) and Tony Cragg (b. 1949).

His most famous artwork is the 100-ton Cloud Gate of 2006 in Chicago’s Millennium Park.

The exhibition in Orońsko is being held under the auspices of Poland's Culture and National Heritage Minister Piotr Gliński. It runs until February 12.
