Opera: Polish bass Adam Palka to sing at Milan’s La Scala

Polish bass Adam Palka is set to replace Ukrainian singer Ildar Abdrazakov in the title role of Modest Mussorgsky’s "Boris Godunov" at Milan’s La Scala opera house on Thursday.

The appearance will mark Palka’s debut at the prestigious venue in Italy.

Born in 1983, Palka studied voice at the Music Academy in Gdańsk, northern Poland.

He has performed at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw; the Royal Opera House in London; Opéra Bastille in Paris; Teatro Real in Madrid; Grand Théâtre de Genève in Geneva, Switzerland; Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Germany; Oper Köln in Cologne, Germany; and the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.

He has been a member of Germany's Staatsoper Stuttgart for the past nine years.

In the La Scala production of Boris Godunov, Palka joins a cast that includes Polish mezzo-soprano Agnieszka Rehlis in the part of Kseniya’s nurse.
