The German city of Frankfurt has announced it is canceling an upcoming concert by former Pink Floyd star Roger Waters, citing what it said was his anti-Semitism, according to a report.

City Hall said in a statement that Waters was "one of the world's most well-known anti-Semites," The Jerusalem Post has reported on its website.

The paper added that the municipality had received permission from a judge to cancel the concert.

The city council condemned the 79-year-old singer for the use of what it described as anti-Semitic imagery in his performances, including a balloon in the shape of a pig with a Star of David printed on it alongside a host of corporate logos, according to the www.jpost.com website.

The show was due to take place on May 28 as part of Waters' concert tour of Germany.

There have been calls to cancel planned events in Berlin, Munich and Cologne as well, The Jerusalem Post said. It added, however, that lawyers believe it will be difficult to enforce such bans.

Waters has recently been criticized not only for his alleged anti-Semitic views but also for his anti-Ukraine statements, which resulted in his gigs being cancelled in Poland.

The former Pink Floyd member had to scrap his shows in the southern Polish city of Kraków, where he was due to perform twice this April.

In September, members of the Kraków City Council representing Poland's conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party drafted a resolution aimed at declaring Waters persona non grata in the historic Polish city because of his statements about Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

“Mindful of Russia’s criminal attack on Ukraine and of the successive war crimes committed by Russian soldiers that come to light, Kraków councillors express their indignation concerning the statements by Mr. Roger Waters on the Russian invasion," the resolution said at the time.

It referred to statements by Waters in which he argued that arms deliveries to Ukraine were “a tragic mistake” and that the United States was interested in prolonging the war.

In an extensive interview with The Telegraph newspaper earlier this month, the singer said he believes that Ukraine is run by Nazis and that it is "not really a country."

He added that, in his opinion, some of the criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin was "unfair," www.jpost.com reported on Saturday.
