Singers lead the field, with baritone Tomasz Konieczny shortlisted in the Male Singer category, baritone Andrzej Filończyk in the Young Singer, and tenor Piotr Beczała nominated for the Opera Magazine Readers’ Award.
Boris Kudlička, a set designer with the National Opera in Warsaw, has been shortlisted in the Designer category.
In addition to his work for the Warsaw company, Kudlička has devised set designs for some of the world’s leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Covent Garden in London.
Meanwhile, a Poznań Opera production of Stanisław Moniuszko’s Jawnuta has been nominated in the Redicovered Work category.
With a libretto based on the idyll Gypsies by Franciszek Dionysius Kniaźnin, Jawnuta is a rarely performed work by the father of Polish national opera, whose The Haunted Manor and Halka are the staple items in the Polish operatic repertoire.
The International Opera Awards ceremony is due to take place at the National Opera in Warsaw on November 9.
