At 29, Filończyk is among most promising Polish opera talents. His upcoming appearances include the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Silvio in Leoncavallo’s Pagliaci), the Teatro Regio in Parma (Figaro in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville) and the Bayerishe Staatsoper in Munich (Enroco Ashton in Donizetti’s Lucia of Lamermoor).

The production of Stanisław Moniuszko’s Jawnuta staged by the Poznań Opera Company in western Poland has won the 2023 International Opera Award in the Redicovered Work category.

With a libretto based on the idyll Gypsies by Franciszek Dionysius Kniaźnin, Jawnuta is a rarely performed work by the father of Polish national opera, whose The Haunted Manor and Halka are the staple items in the Polish operatic repertoire.

The International Opera Awards were given in 19 categories. The winners were announced at a gala ceremony which was held on Thursday at the National Opera in Warsaw. It was the first time that Poland hosted what are dubbed as operatic Oscars.

The event was MCed by BBC Radio 3’s Petroc Trelawny.

Previous recipients of the International Opera Awards  include Waldemar Dąbrowski, General Manager of the Polish National Opera, and Mariusz Treliński, the company’s Artistic Director.
