The programme of the concert includes Violin Concerto No. 2 by Polish composer Karol Szymanowski.
Written for outstanding Polish violinist Paweł Kochański, who premiered the work in 1933, the composition draws influences from Polish highlander music.
Ukrainian-born Israeli violinist Vaid Gluzman is the soloist for the concert.
The programme also comprises Edward Elgar’s symphonic prelude Polonia, a piece imbued with the Polish national spirit, including quotations from Polish patriotic songs and themes from works by Chopin and Ignacy Jan Paderewski, to whom the composition was dedicated.
The second part of the concert is a tribute to Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, with two of his works, En Saga and Lemminkäinen’s Return, on the programme, as well as a piece by contemporary Finnish composer Lotta Wennäkoski entitled Verdigris, inspired by Sibelius’ music.
The concert inaugurates the 5th Eufonie International Music Festival of Central and Eastern Europe, which will run in Warsaw until November 25.
