One of the country’s most respected screenwriters, he penned scripts for about 40 films, including Sylwester Chęciński's iconic comedy trilogy Sami swoi (Our Folks), Nie ma mocnych (Take it Easy) and Kochaj albo rzuć (Love or Leave).
Mularczyk also wrote the scripts for Oscar-winning director Andrzej Wajda's feature films Katyn and Powidoki (Afterimage), and the popular 1970s and '80s TV series Droga, Rodzina Połanieckich and Dom.
He was associated with public broadcaster Polish Radio for several decades, starting in the 1950s.
Mularczyk helped create some of the country's longest-running radio drama series, including W Jezioranach and Matysiakowie.
His credits as a radio drama writer included two international Prix Italia awards, known as "Radio Oscars," for his audio plays Z głębokości wód and Cyrk odjechał, lwy zostały.
Mularczyk's other honours included the Gloria Artis Silver Medal of Merit to Polish Culture, and the Commander's Cross of the Polonia Restituta Order for his "outstanding services to Polish Radio."
In 2018, he won an award from the Polish Filmmakers' Association (SFP), and two years later earned a lifetime achievement award at the 9th annual Script Fiesta Screenwriters' Festival in Warsaw.
Born in Warsaw on June 13, 1930, he died shortly after his 94th birthday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
