Chopin competition for amateur pianists starts in Warsaw

Forty-two pianists from around the world will take part in the 6th International Fryderyk Chopin Competition for Amateur Pianists, which begins in Warsaw on Monday.

The event has attracted 12 pianists from Japan, six each from the United States and France, and five from Poland.

There are also participants from South Korea, China, Italy, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Israel and Lebanon.

A prizewinners concert is scheduled for September 14.

Sean Sutherland, a pianist representing St. Vincent and The Grenadines, won the previous Chopin Competition for Amateur Pianists in the Polish capital.
