The Polish company will give three performances of Verdi’s Aida and five performances of the classical ballet Giselle, with music by Adolphe Adam.
The premiere of Aida is scheduled for Saturday, September 13.
The Polish National Opera and Ballet writes on its website that the Dubai season is a huge logistic undertaking, with the company consisting of 90 orchestral musicians, 70 dancers, and 70 choristers.
Twenty tonnes of sets and costumes were shipped by sea in 10 containers two months ago.
Prior to this, some of the sets had to be reduced in size to fit the dimensions of the Dubai stage, while the costumes of the priestesses in Aida had to be adjusted to local demands by covering the dancers’ arms and bellies.
The Dubai season ends on September 22, with the Polish National Opera Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, together with the Dubai Festival Chorus, in a concert marking the 200th anniversary of the work’s premiere.
All the performances will be conducted by Patrick Fournillier, the Polish National Opera’s music director.
This will be the Warsaw opera company's second visit to Dubai. In 2018, it staged two productions there: Aida and Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin.
