French musician wins Chopin Competition for Amateur Pianists in Warsaw

French musician Robin Stephenson has scooped the top prize at the International Fryderyk Chopin Competition for Amateur Pianists in Warsaw.

Yuwei Hu of China placed second and Eric Rouach of France was third.

Honourable mentions went to three pianists from Japan, and one each from South Korea, South Africa and Italy.

None of the five Polish contestants was among the laureates.

The competition attracted 42 pianists from across the world.

Launched in 2009, the event is held every three years. It is open to pianists who do not earn their living from piano performance or instruction and who pursue different professional careers.
