He also claimed the Prize for Commissioned Piece by French composer Marc-André Dalbavie.
The top accolade went to Maria Zaitseva of Russia, while third prize was awarded to Alexander Warenberg from the Netherlands.
Michalski, 21, started playing the cello at the age of six. In his early teens, he won a grant to study in Medellín, Colombia.
From 2019 to 2021, he continued his education at the Musica Mundi international school in Waterloo, Belgium, and is currently a student of cello and chamber music at the Paris Conservatory.
He has won prizes at several international cello competitions in the United States, Hungary, Lithuania and Belgium, and has performed in recitals and as a soloist with orchestras across Europe and the Americas.
