Poland’s Karolina Juzwa has been elected a new president of the Europe Jazz Network (EJN), a non-profit association of producers, presenters and supporting organisations that specialise in contemporary jazz, as well as creative and improvised music.

Juzwa was elected at the organisation’s latest gathering in Ghent, Belgium, replacing the outgoing president Wim Wabbes, who retired after 12 years in the post.

In an interview for Polish Radio 2, the public broadcaster’s music-and-arts-channel, Juzwa said that she hopes during her four-year tenure as EJN president to focus the organization’s attention on Poland. “I’d like to make Poland’s presence in EJN activities more prominent. Participation in all-European exchange programmes is not only about foreign jazzmen coming to Poland; it should also be a platform for ensuring a more sizeable presence of Polish jazzmen in the European circuit”, she added.

Juzwa is the founder of the International Jazz Platform in Łódź, central Poland. She also serves as the curator of the Summer Jazz Academy Festival and the director of the Łódź-based Wytwórnia Foundation, whose wide-ranging activities include jazz concerts, workshops and jam sessions and the promotion of the city’s jazz traditions.
The Europe Jazz Network brings together more than 200 festivals, clubs, concert venues and support organisations in 37 countries.
