"We anticipated that this project would last a maximum of three months. However, after just one week, we gathered so many observations, opinions, and conclusions that we deemed its continuation pointless," explained Marcin Pulit, the liquidator of Radio Kraków, under which OFF Radio Kraków operates, in an official statement.

As previously reported on our portal, a controversy erupted in Poland after OFF Radio Kraków aired a live program featuring the late Polish Nobel laureate Wisława Szymborska, who passed away 12 years ago. The show's hosts were AI-generated characters discussing this year's Nobel Prize winner with the renowned poet.

AI experiment provokes controversy in Poland

Concerns about potential violations of the deceased author’s personal rights were raised by lawyers, but Michał Rusinek, Szymborska's secretary, defended the AI's use, suggesting the responses were in her style and that she would likely find humor in the situation.

OFF Radio Kraków emphasized that their AI project aimed to spark a discussion on the challenges associated with AI.

Marcin Pulit noted that the interest in this experiment revealed numerous areas needing regulation, such as image protection and copyright, and highlighted that the station does not intend to replace humans with machines, suggesting their experiences could inform future legal standards for AI in Poland.
