The idea behind this event is to celebrate Yiddish culture and Isaac Bashevis Singer’s legacy through music, song, and art.

The program features a jazz concert by the duo Makowicz & Medyna and a recital by Monika Chrząstowska, an actress from Warsaw’s Jewish Theatre.

Organized for 21 years by the Shalom Foundation, the festival aims to honor the legacy of Isaac Bashevis Singer and promote Yiddish culture worldwide.

The main event, a jazz concert on November 24 at the Polish & Slavic Center, will showcase works by Jewish composers such as Gershwin, Bernstein, and Kern.

On November 25, the Consulate General of Poland will host a concert of songs by Wiera Gran, performed by Monika Chrząstowska with a trio of instrumentalists.

Wiera Gran was a legendary singer of pre-war Warsaw who performed in the ghetto during WWII, and her post-war life was marked by controversy.

The event’s partners include the Consulate General of Poland in New York, the Polish Cultural Institute, the Jewish Theatre, and the Fund for the Promotion of Culture, with free admission available through prior registration.

The event, Adam Makowicz and Krzysztof Medyna in Jazz Concert, will take place on November 24, 2024, from 7 PM to 9 PM at the Polish & Slavic Center, 177 Kent Street, Brooklyn, NY 11222.
