Poland's National Film Culture Centre in Łódź opened in December 2023. It is an educational institution, sharing filmmaking know-how and disseminating knowledge about cinematography's history and future. Its location is Łódź's EC1 - a former power plant built in the early 1900s, now revitalized and transformed into a visually striking multifunctional cultural complex. Apart from its two permanent exhibitions, the National Center for Film Culture houses five film education studios, three state-of-the-art cinema halls and a digitisation centre.
Sunday's first anniversary programme of this institution includes the country's pra-premiere cinema screenings of films for children and adults - including "Flow", "Emilia Pérez", "Julie's Silence" and "The Art of Beautiful Life". The youngest will be able to familiarize themselves with classic Polish animation for the 3+ age group - and visit a television studio and a film sound studio.
Older film buffs will be invited to watch the "Stop Making Sense" musical, witness a screening of silent films with live music, like "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari", and check out a special screening of film etudes by graduates of Poland's famed Łódź Film School, recorded on 35mm film by the future masters such as Andrzej Wajda, Roman Polański, Jerzy Skolimowski, Krzysztof Kieślowski and Krzysztof Zanussi.
