According to the newly unveiled schedule, the 2025/2026 season will open with The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Mason Bates, featuring Polish baritone Andrzej Filończyk in his Met debut as artist Joe Kavalier.
Bates’ opera is based on Michael Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize–winning novel of the same title.
Filończyk will also sing the role of Sharpless in Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
Meanwhile, Polish bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny will appear as Kurwenal in Richard Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde and as Mandryka in Richard Strauss’ Arabella.
Tenor Piotr Beczała, a Met regular since 2006, will star as the poet Andrea Chénier in Umberto Giordano's Andrea Chénier, while soprano Aleksandra Kurzak will return to the Met as Mimi in Puccini’s La Bohème.
Other Poles set to grace the Met's stage include tenor Piotr Buszewski, cast as Alfredo Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata; baritone Artur Ruciński, performing as Riccardo Forth in Vincenzo Bellini’s I Puritani; and bass Adam Pałka, taking on the role of Commendatore in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
Polish singers will also appear in four of the eight productions broadcast worldwide in the Met’s Live in HD series: Arabella—November 22, 2025; Andrea Chénier—December 13, 2025; I Puritani—January 10, 2026; and Tristan und Isolde—March 21, 2026.
