March 1 marks 215 years since Fryderyk Chopin was born in Żelazowa Wola, about 50 km west of Warsaw, in 1810.

Continuing a long-standing tradition, a Chopin recital will be held at noon at the composer's birthplace in Żelazowa Wola.

The performance will feature 27-year-old Polish pianist Piotr Pawlak, the Second Prize winner at the 2023 International Chopin Competition on Historical Instruments in Warsaw.

Pawlak will perform on a period instrument.

The recital will be broadcast live on Polish Radio 2, the public broadcaster's arts and music channel, as well as on the YouTube channel of Poland's National Chopin Institute.

Another highlight of the anniversary celebrations is an evening concert by American pianist Kevin Kenner at the National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw.

Kenner will be joined by Quatuor Mosaïques, an acclaimed Austrian period-instrument quartet, and Grzegorz Frankowski (double bass) in a performance of both of Chopin's piano concertos.

The concertos will be played in a version for piano and string quintet by Kenner and Krzysztof Dombek, similar to that performed during Chopin's lifetime.

The concert, at 7 p.m. Warsaw time, will also be broadcast live on Polish Radio 2 and the National Chopin Institute's YouTube channel.

Kenner, the winner of the 1990 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, is set to serve on the jury of the upcoming 19th Chopin Competition, which opens on October 2.
