Rolke was one of Poland’s most influential photographers, known for documenting artistic life in Warsaw as well as the daily experiences of Roma communities near the capital.
Tadeusz Rolke also worked in fashion photography and published his work widely in both Polish outlets - including Świat, Przekrój, and Gazeta Wyborcza - and German magazines such as Stern and Die Zeit.
His exhibitions were shown at major institutions including the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, the Foksal Gallery Foundation, and internationally in countries like China and Brazil.
Zmarł Tadeusz Rolke, jeden z najwybitniejszych polskich fotografów, prekursor polskiej fotografii reportażowej. Autor wielu wystaw i albumów. Miał 96 lat.

“I often remind people that there is such a thing as ‘photography that nobody needs’ - accidental, unplanned. That kind of photography is the ultimate freedom for an artist,” Rolke once reflected in an interview with Poland’s national public broadcaster, Polish Radio’s Channel Two.
